Hosta 'Doctor Fu Manchu'

This cultivar is the result of a cross of two species, H. longipes x H. pycnophylla by Hajime Sugita in Japan. It was registered with The American Hosta Society by Peter Ruh of Ohio in 1998.

It forms a medium size hosta about 16 inches high with a 36 inch spread. The foliage is moderately rippled with purple-red petioles. Funnel shaped medium purple flowers bloom late, in September. The petals have reflexed (i.e. bending backwards) tips.

Although the plant above is labeled with "Dr.", this hosta is registered as 'Doctor Fu Manchu'.
