Hosta 'Mr Big'

A giant size (40 inches high by 80 inches wide) cultivar of unidentified parentage, this hosta was originated by Charles Purtymun at Walden West Nursery in Oregon and registered on his behalf in 2010 by Peter Ruh of Ohio. This plant has dark green, moderately corrugated, twisted foliage with thick substance and a slightly shiny top. Near white, funnel shaped flowers open in July.

According to The Hostapedia by Mark Zilis (2009), "...'Mr. Big' shows evidence of being a seedling of H. montana, possibly crossed with H. 'Elegans'. Its leaf color is dark green for most of the growing season."

The New Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell (2009) states: "The whole leaf becomes bluer with maturity. Very slow...Uneven shirring along the veins is apparent in some leaves when mature. Among the largest hostas ever introduced..."
