Hosta clausa var. clausa

This naturally occurring variety of the species H. clausa was described by Dr. Fumio Maekawa in 1937. It is a triploid hosta found in Korea but considered to be a very rare plant in its native environment. This is the oldest known variation of the species and, like others in the H. clausa group has purple flower buds that do not open.
