Mat-forming perennial - spreads rapidly by rhizomes.
3-6 inches tall by 12 inches wide.
White flowers to 1 inch across in 3-5 flowered cymes, petals are notched.
Mid to late spring
Opposite leaves, linear-lanceolate, 1 inch long and 14 inches wide, white-woolly tomentose (silver leaves) - Evergreen
 
An adaptable, easily cultured plant which needs full sun and any well-drained soil.
  • 'Columnare' - 8 inches, white flowers, more compact than the species.
  • 'Yo Yo' - Free flowering, compact plant, white flowers.
  • 'Silver Carpet' - Compact selection similar to 'Columnare'.
 
The genus name Cerastium is derived from the Greek word keras, horn and refers to the shape of the fruit.
