Dense cluster of up to 30 at the top of the stems each flower with five petals and serrated edges. Flowers are not scented
 
Green to glaucous blue-green tapered leaves
 
 

  • var. barbatus - Leaves broader, up to 2 cm broad.
  • var. asiaticus - from Northeastern Asia. Leaves slender, not over ¼ inch wide
 
Sweet William is a biennial but it selfsows to be a constant in the garden.
