  • var. gracilis - trailing habit and is frequently used in hanging baskets. The flowers are purple and red.
     
  • var. riccartonii - grows up to 10 feet tall and is most floriferous, supposedly one of the hardiest of all the fuchsias
Parents (with F. fulgens) of most of the large flowered hybrid varieties commonly grown.

Named for a German physician, Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1566).
