Small bulb with an erect flower stalk
4-6 inches tall and 4 inches wide
Pale blue flowers, ˝ inches long, are borne in a terminal raceme at the end of the flowering stalk. Individual flowers are bell-shaped and have a dark blue stripe running down the center of the petal.
Early spring
The glossy basal foliage is composed of 2-4 linear strap-shaped leaves, ˝ inches wide and 6 inches long.
 
 
 
 
The genera Scilla, Chionodoxa and Puschkinia are closely related. The botanical difference that separates Puschkinia from the other genera is that the flower filaments are united into a cuplike crown or corona.

Puschkinia
is named for the Russian Count Apollos Apollosvich Mussin-Puschkin. The specific epithet, scilloides, is from Scilla, indicating “like Scilla.”
