Hosta 'Groo Bloo'

A Hosta sieboldiana type of plant, this cultivar was developed by Paul Aden in the 1970s but was never registered. A large plant, it grows to 26 inches in height and a massive 8 feet wide at maturity. The leaves are moderately corrugated, slightly wavy and have thick substance. Its near white flowers bloom in late June.

According to The Hosta Handbook by Mark Zilis (2000), "...disappeared from nursery lists sometime during the 1980s...it was rumored to be the same as 'Big Mama'...a few nurseries have begun offering it again..."

These 2010 photos come from the Ralph (Herb) and Dorothy Benedict Hosta Hillside, tours and vendors at the 2010 American Hosta Society National Convention in Minnesota, Wade and Gatton Nursery and Arboretum, Toledo Botanical Garden and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
