There are hundreds of different species that fall into this category of insects. Locusts are a swarming type of grasshopper. The largest types may grow up to 2 1/2 inches in length. Of course, they are noted for their powerful hind legs which allow them to jump relatively long distances.

Generally, grasshoppers do not form a major threat to ornamental landscapes.

Usually, you can just leave them alone. However, if they "bug" you, you can hand pick individuals that you see on your landscape plants.
