Hosta pycnophylla 'Ogon'
 

An article by W. George Schmid in The Hosta Journal  (1996 Vol. 27 No. 2) states that This is a duplicate, incorrect or outdated name for Hosta pycnophylla 'Ogon Setouchi'.

Mikiko Lockwood in an article on The Hosta Library titled, A Little About Japanese Hosta Terms defines the term ogon or oogon as gold or yellow.

 

Many hostas in Japan have been given the simple name 'Ogon' which would indicate that the plant has yellow or gold colored foliage. There are at least 11 such plants with that name, all from different species including:

  1. H. capitata 'Ogon'
  2. H. cathayana 'Ogon'
  3. H. hypoleuca 'Ogon'
  4. H. kikutii polyneuron 'Ogon'
  5. H. longipes 'Ogon'
  6. H. montana 'Ogon'
  1. H. nakaiana 'Ogon'
  2. H. pycnophylla 'Ogon'
  3. H. rectifolia 'Ogon'
  4. H. tsushimiensis 'Ogon'
  5. H. venusta 'Ogon'.
