Generally when
people think of color in ornamental plants,
their focus goes immediately to flowers.
However, on many woody plants, the fruit may
also add color and multi-seasonal interest.
Some
dioecious
plants like holly need both a male and a female
plant to have fruit develop on the female. You
need two different cultivars of crabapples (or
fruiting apple trees) in
the vicinity to produce fruit. This is generally
not a problem in urban and suburban areas where
almost every lot has at least one crabapple
tree.
