Through
2019, we have data from 33 years of hosta polls from The
American Hosta Society. While some cultivars come in and out of
popularity with the gardening public, several hostas have
achieved consistently high ratings in the polls over many years.
Listed below are the top hostas
based on average ranking over at least ten years in the general
hosta polls. Below that is the complete list of hostas that have
been included in at least one poll.
Don't
forget that these rankings represent where these hostas rank
among an estimated 10,000 or more named individuals. So, a
ranking of 25 or even 50 is pretty good.
Starting in 2003, it was determined
that there needed to be a separate poll for "Small" hostas since the
top rated cultivars in the other poll were all of the large to giant
size types. We have accumulated 16 small hosta polls to date.
